Brightwork, Teak & Interior Detailing in the Keys

The finish below the gunwale decides how a boat feels — and how it surveys. Cabin detailing, mold and mildew removal, teak cleaning and sealing, metal polishing, canvas and isinglass care. Dockside, documented, and honest about what can be saved.

Typical full cabin: 4–8 hours Sale-prep specialists Service updates when useful

What We Handle

Six materials, six different processes.

Interior and brightwork work fails when one product gets used on everything. We match the process to the material — and tell you when a material is past saving.

Cabins

Interior detailing

Vacuum, wipe-down of all surfaces, heads and galley cleaning, deodorizing. Scoped from photos or a walkthrough; a typical full cabin runs 4–8 hours.

Mold & mildew

Removal & treatment

Starke mold and mildew removal on vinyl, fiberglass, canvas and hard surfaces, plus moisture-source notes so it doesn't return next season.

Teak

Cleaning & sealing

Two-part cleaning and brightening, then seal or oil per your preference and exposure. Decks, rails, tables and trim.

Metals

Brightwork polishing

Stainless, aluminum, brass and bronze polished with metal-matched compounds. Rust weep treated at the source where accessible.

Canvas & isinglass

Enclosure care

Canvas cleaning and protection, isinglass oxidation removal and polishing, zipper and frame attention while enclosures are down.

Soft goods

Upholstery & fabrics

Upholstery conditioning, carpet extraction, steam cleaning, fabric protection and upholstery ceramic coatings, scoped as needed.

Mold & Mildew, Honestly

What removal can fix — and what it can't.

Can be fully removed

  • • Surface mold on vinyl and leatherette
  • • Mildew on fiberglass and gelcoat
  • • Canvas and enclosure staining
  • • Heads, bilge lids and locker interiors

Usually can't

  • • Mold inside cushion foam — replacement
  • • Deep-set carpet backing contamination
  • • Rot in teak or plywood substrates
  • • Odor from a wet bilge source

We photograph and show you which category each affected component falls into before spending your money — and we note the moisture source (ventilation, hatch seals, bilge humidity) so the fix actually holds.

The Process

Walkthrough first, products second.

Material walkthrough

We identify every surface — teak condition, metal types, fabric and vinyl grades, isinglass age — and flag anything past saving before quoting.

Strip and vacuum

Cabin cleared of loose gear, full vacuum including lockers, bilge lids and under-berth spaces where moisture hides.

Treat mold and stains

Starke mold and mildew removal applied, agitated and extracted. Stain sources treated; moisture notes recorded for you.

Teak and metals

Teak cleaned and brightened, then sealed or oiled per your choice. Metals polished with compounds matched to each alloy.

Canvas, isinglass and soft goods

Enclosures cleaned and protected, isinglass polished where viable, upholstery conditioned or coated, carpets extracted if scoped.

Document and recommend

Completion photos plus a written note: what was treated, what needs replacement, and what to watch for humidity-wise next season.

Teak Finish Options

Oil, seal, or leave it clean?

Owners ask this every season. Here's the trade-off we walk through on deck.

Sealed teak wins in the Keys for most owners: fewer applications, better UV hold, and no oily film on decks or fishing gear.

Exterior match

Hull & waterline

Pair the interior with above-waterline hull cleaning so the whole vessel presents at once.

FAQ

Interior & brightwork questions, answered.

How do I get an interior detailing quote?

Send photos of the cabin and any affected areas, or we walk the boat at the dock. You receive a written scope — what's included, what's an add-on, and what we recommend against — before anything is scheduled. A typical full cabin runs 4–8 hours of work.

Can mold and mildew be completely removed?

Surface mold on vinyl, fiberglass, canvas and hard surfaces — yes, fully removed and treated. Mold inside cushion foam or deep in fabric backing sometimes requires component replacement; we show you which is which first. Preventing return means addressing moisture: ventilation, bilge dryness and storage.

How often should teak be cleaned and sealed in Florida?

In Keys sun and salt: clean 2–4 times per year, seal once or twice per year depending on exposure. Oiled teak needs more frequent attention than sealed. Neglected teak grays, checks and loses thickness.

Can cloudy isinglass be restored?

Light oxidation and hazing often polish back to clarity with plastic-safe cleaners and protectants. Deep yellowing, crazing or cracks mean material failure — replacement is the honest call there.

Do you polish all marine metals?

Stainless, aluminum, brass and bronze — yes, with compounds matched to each metal. Anodized aluminum is cleaned and protected rather than polished, since polishing strips the anodized layer.

Is interior detailing worth it before selling?

Yes — among the highest-return sale-prep investments. A clean, odor-free cabin photographs better, surveys better and removes the buyer's neglect concern. On a recent Hatteras sale prep the interior work also surfaced a live-well drain leak, documented before survey.

Do I need to be aboard?

No. With dock access, slip confirmation and any gate code, interior work is commonly completed while owners are away. A condition note is available after a visit when useful.
